While preseason is usually a good excuse not to watch football quite so closely and give your friends, family and loved ones back the remote, things are a little different if you're a Gunner right now. The club have just shattered their transfer record for Declan Rice and following on from last season's second-place finish behind Manchester City, they mean business this summer.

A tie against the MLS All-Stars is the first opportunity to see the £105 million man in action. Mikel Arteta has picked a strong squad for the trip stateside and this is a chance for fans to get a glimpse of the new signings – Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber are there, too – ahead of the new season.

After drawing 1-1 with Germans Nürnberg last week, Arsenal continue their 2023-24 pre-season with an interesting match-up against the MLS All-Stars.

It's a game that you'll be able to watch live on AppleTV.

The clash in Washington, DC, kicks off a three-match tour of the US for the Gunners. The North Londoners will also be facing Manchester United in East Rutherford on July 22, and Barcelona in Inglewood on July 27.

Declan Rice, a $137m signing from West Ham, could get his first Arsenal run-out against the MLS All-Stars, who will be coached by DC United boss and former United favourite Wayne Rooney.

Rooney’s 28-man MLS All-Stars squad includes former Premier League striker Christian Benteke and ex-Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig.

Arsenal will be looking to get a positive result in their opening run-out in the States, but they will be up against a group of talented players who will be playing on home soil. However, we expect Arsenal’s quality to make the difference here.

Mikel Arteta could hand Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber their first outings for the Gunners after they completed their long-awaited transfers in time for the tour of the United States.

This is the second of five friendlies for Arsenal this summer and their schedule did not start in the best manner possible last week, when they ended a training camp in Germany by drawing at Nurnberg.

It will be interesting to see how Rice and Timber are deployed alongside the likes of Kai Havertz in this game, with the German set to continue in his new midfield role.

History dictates that the All-Stars are far-from pushovers so this is set to be a key test of Arteta’s men at this early stage of the season.

In the first game of our US Tour, we’ll be taking on the MLS All-Stars in Washington DC as our men’s first-team face the best the league has to offer.

Wayne Rooney will manage a collection of talents from across the nation, selected by himself, supporters and the commissioner as he aims to find a winning formula against our own star-studded squad. That is also the case for the All-Star Skill Challenge the night before, when Mikel Arteta’s team go head-to-head with their MLS counterparts in a series of skill-based games, aiming to win points for their team and be crowned victors
